Cleveland -- Apr 27, 2005 --

Chicago, IL. – The DIGI Awards, the first formal recognition of innovation and excellence in the digital signage industry, were presented to nine companies at the NSCA Systems Integration Expo in Orlando, Florida. The winning installations represent a range of industries, including corporate, retail and transportation, and illustrate the expanding uses for digital signage worldwide.

The winning entries feature new approaches and strategies for resolving challenges that will inspire anyone involved in digital signage," said Brad Gleeson, president of ActiveLight, the founder and sponsor of the awards. "It's the truly innovative digital signage resellers, dealers and integrators such as these, that are demonstrating the power of digital signage and leading the way for the future."

The awards were judged by five journalists in the digital signage industry: David Keene, executive editor of Systems Contractor News and award chairperson; Darek Johnson, senior technology editor of Signs of the Times; Mark Mayfield, editor of Pro AV; Pete Putman, senior editor of Studio and Film and Video; and David A. Wifi-Plus Inc. Antenna was an important factor in the UDN/Webpavement New York subway project which installed 80 wirelessly networked electronic billboards at the street-level entrances to Manhattan's subway stations. UDN, a Las Vegas-based company, is partnering with US media giant Clear Channel Outdoor on the project. Clear Channel, which holds a street-level advertising contract with the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), and plans to extend its new screen network throughout the island's subway system.

Each screen was fitted with an omni directional WiFi-Plus Multi-Polarized antenna, which had proved to give the best performance on the Manhattan streets, a demanding environment because of the multiple obstacles of buildings, cars and pedestrian traffic. The antennas have remarkable performance in highly reflective multi-path environments, showing obstruction penetrating qualities, improved packet transfer rates and reduced bit error rate.

“Real world installations do not allow for Line of sight.  The wireless world is full of obstruction that has hindered the adoption of wireless services”.  WiFi-Plus, Inc.  President Dennis Broderick said.  He continued saying, “Our customers are discovering new and innovative ways to use our MP antenna technology, they are breaking wireless design rules and achieving new levels of success. “We are proud to be recognized for our contribution to Webpavement Inc.  New York Subway Digital Signage System - 80 LED displays interconnected in urban street level outdoor environment”.
